WhiteBIT

Largest venue outside the top tier

A top-five futures venue with an EEA licence, but withdrawals draw persistent source-of-funds delays and its proof of reserves has not been refreshed since 2024.

3.3
Security & reserve transparency3.0/5
Liquidity & product breadth3.0/5
Fees4.0/5
Regulatory posture3.5/5
Client convenience3.5/5
Track record & reputation3.0/5
Best ForFutures traders in the EEA who want depth outside the biggest names
Derivatives volume$650B in Q2, about 4.1% of the market
FeesSpot 0.10% / 0.10%, futures 0.01% / 0.055%, large discounts gated behind WBT
Risk noteRepeated reports of withdrawals stalling behind source-of-funds requests. Its WBT token trades almost entirely on WhiteBIT itself, so a confidence shock would not be cushioned by its headline market cap. Not available in the UK or Canada
StrengthsNo known breach in its history • MiCA authorisation passportable across the EEA • Competitive derivatives fees
#7

The most regulatory enforcement history of the six here - still functional, but a real trust gap versus the others

StrengthsAltcoin access • Trading bots • Earn and launch products
#8

Backpack

Best proof-of-reserves practice

Small but unusually well-evidenced: daily zero-knowledge proof of reserves and licences in three regimes. Liquidity is the real constraint - spot volume is a fraction of the majors.

3.1
Security & reserve transparency4.0/5
Liquidity & product breadth1.5/5
Fees4.5/5
Regulatory posture4.0/5
Client convenience2.5/5
Track record & reputation2.0/5
Best ForSolana-native trading, users who want verifiable reserves over scale
Spot fees0.08% maker / 0.10% taker, free on USDT-USDC
FeesSpot 0.08% / 0.10%, futures 0.02% / 0.05%, no fee on USDT-USDC pairs
Risk noteGenuinely small exchange, and small exchanges fail. Founded partly by former FTX staff; no service to Canada, Japan, Singapore or New Zealand
StrengthsDaily zk proof of reserves, independently verified • Licensed in Dubai, the EEA and Cyprus • Cheaper spot fees than most majors

How to choose a crypto exchange

The best exchange depends on what you actually do with crypto. A long-term investor, an altcoin hunter, a futures trader, and a bot user need different trade-offs.

1. Check regional availability

A global brand can offer different products depending on your country. Always confirm whether spot, futures, earn products, cards, P2P, and fiat rails are available to you.

2. Compare real costs

Trading fees are only one part of the cost. Check spreads, withdrawal networks, conversion fees, card fees, funding rates, and whether VIP discounts matter for you.

3. Match tools to strategy

Binance is strongest as an ecosystem. Bybit is excellent for focused trading. OKX is strong for Web3 flows. Kraken and Coinbase are better trust-led beginner options.

4. Separate investing from leverage

Spot investing and futures trading are not the same activity. Futures can be useful, but leverage, liquidation, and funding rates can destroy weak risk management.
