How to evaluate a prop trading firm

Every firm's marketing page looks similar. The real differences show up in the rules, the payout track record and what happens when you actually get close to failing.

1. Check the real pass rate, not the marketing

Most public data puts overall challenge pass rates around 5-10%, and only about 7% of funded accounts ever reach a payout. Price the challenge fee as a real cost, not a formality.

2. Read the drawdown rules carefully

Daily loss limits, maximum overall drawdown and whether it's measured on equity or balance can disqualify an otherwise profitable trader. This is where most challenges are actually lost.

3. Check country and payout restrictions

Some firms restrict specific countries or regions for evaluations or payouts due to sanctions or compliance rules. Confirm your country is fully supported before paying for a challenge.

4. Compare the profit split at scale, not just day one

Starting splits of 80-85% often scale higher (90%+) as an account grows under a firm's scaling plan — worth comparing the long-term split, not just the entry offer.
