How this rating actually works

Every wallet here does the same job — hold a private key offline — so the same six criteria apply across all of them, regardless of which blockchain you actually use it for.

1. Security architecture isn't the whole story

A certified secure element (EAL6+) matters, but so does what happens after — whether firmware is open-source and independently auditable, or closed and vendor-trusted only.

2. Reputation and market share are scored separately

The most popular brand isn't automatically the most trusted one right now. A real incident history — even one where funds were never at risk — is weighed on its own, not hidden behind brand recognition.

3. Check the backup model before you buy

A standard 24-word seed phrase, an optional split-secret scheme, or no seed phrase at all — each has a real, different trade-off for how you recover funds if the device is lost.

4. Pair it with a software wallet for daily use
